The Arts Festival – 2008, organized by the Arts Circle of People’s Bank, was held recently at the Elphinston Theater. Held in conjunction with the 47th anniversary of the Bank, this grand ceremony took place under the patronage of Mr. W. Karunajeewa, Chairman; and Mr. M. Wickramasinghe, Chief Executive Officer/General Manager of People’s Bank. It was also attended by the corporate management and staff of the Bank, as well as a number of renowned artists.
A CD titled ‘Pembara Geetha’, containing the lyrics and songs of People’s Bank employees and directed by Prof. Sanath Nandasiri was released at the ceremony. Furthermore, on a note of special significance and for the first time, a dance troupe consisting of People’s Bank employees was unveiled and wowed the audience with their talents. Awards and certificates were presented to Bank employees and their children who emerged as winners of the 2007/2008 literature competition. A magazine titled ‘Kalahanda’ comprising the compositions of the winning entries was also unveiled.
Another significant moment during this arts festival was the felicitation of Dr. Pandith Amaradeva, Dr. Premasiri Kemadasa, literary genius K. Jayatilleke and stage actor and radio artist J. H. Jayawardena, who have all contributed immensely to the development of the field of arts in Sri Lanka.
