State banking giant People’s bank has once again declared 8 March – 8 April as the People’s Bank ‘Vanitha Vasana Month’ to coincide with the International Women’s Day, which falls on 8 March. Celebrating and honoring the women of our country for their dedication, service and sacrifices, the Bank is offering them an opportunity to double their savings, through ‘Vanitha Vasana’ Savings Certificates, being issued throughout this period at all People’s Bank branches and service centers.

The People’s Bank ‘Vanitha Vasana’ Savings Certificates are issued in denominations of Rs.1,000, Rs.5,000, Rs.10,000, Rs.25,000, Rs.50,000 and Rs.100,000. All ‘Vanitha Vasana’ Savings Certificates purchased during the ‘Vanitha Vasana’ month will be entered in to a grand draw, to be held on 14 April, the “Avurudu Ganudenu’ day, at all People’s Bank branches. The lucky winners of the ‘Vanitha Vasana’ draw will have the opportunity of doubling the value of their savings certificates.

‘Vanitha Vasana’ Savings Certificates were on offer at the official ceremony held to celebrate International Women’s Day, at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital, Borella, on 8 March. The ceremony was held under the patronage of Mr. M. Wickremasinghe, Acting Chief Executive Officer/General Manager, who handed over ‘Vanitha Vasana’ Savings Certificates to those who purchased them. Dr. (Ms.) S. Yoganathan, Director, Lady Ridgeway Hospital, together with the staff of the hospital, members of the People’s Bank’s corporate management and its staff were present at the event. Special ceremonies were held at all People’s Bank branches across the country as well.

People’s Bank launched the ‘Vanitha Vasana’ account, the first savings account designed specially for the women of Sri Lanka, in 1993, offering a range of benefits in order to foster the savings habit among them. ‘Vanitha Vasana’ account holders are eligible to apply for loan facilities to purchase property or for the construction of a house, the purchase of household equipment, weddings and for educational purposes. In addition to an attractive interest rate, People’s Bank ‘Vanitha Vasana’ account holders are also offered Credit Card and ATM facilities.
