The People's Bank operates foreign currency accounts for Sri Lankan citizens and foreign nationals too, resident in Sri Lanka. These accounts could be either fixed or savings and are offered with attractive rates of interest.

Eligibility

• Citizens of Sri Lanka (Resident)
• Non Citizens resident in Sri Lanka

Resident Foreign Currency Account Can be Opened as

• Savings Accounts
• Fixed Deposit Accounts
• Joint (Initial deposit should be US$ 100 or equivalent per person)
• Minor Accounts (Refer “Doo Daru Ethera Isura Account”)

RFC Accounts can be opened in,

• US Dollars
• Singapore Dollars
• Canadian Dollars
• Sterling Pounds
• Australian Dollars
• Euro
• Swiss Francs
• Hong Kong Dollars
• Japanese Yens
• New Zealand Dollars
• Swedish Kroners
• Danish Kroners
• Norwegian Kroners

Permitted Credits (Deposits)

• Inward remittances received through Authorized Dealers.
• Foreign exchange brought into the country by the account holder.
• Neither export proceeds nor CN/TC issued against rupees be permitted to credit RFCs
• Interest earned for funds held in the account.

Permitted Debits (Withdrawals)

• Withdrawals could be made in Sri Lanka Rupees over the counter
• Withdrawals can be made as FC notes on travel documents
• Remittances abroad freely allowed.
• Transfers to another RFC Account.

Account can be maintained even after the balance is less than USD 100 or equivalent foreign currency.
