State banking giant and winner of the ‘Banking and Financial Services Brand of the Year’ award, at People’s Awards – 2007, People’s Bank has once again proven its commitment to national development by introducing a deposit mobilization campaign under the Bank’s ‘Saving’s Year – 2007’ theme with the aim of moving the nation ‘towards excellence through strength.’ It will center on the ‘Jaya Sri’ Grand Draw, which is back stronger than ever with an array of valuable gifts for all those who save with People’s Bank.

The official ceremony of the deposit campaign will be held in Anuradhapura, on Sunday, July 15, 2007, with the participation of Mr. W. Karunajeewa, Chairman; Mr. Asoka de Silva, Chief Executive Officer/General Manager, members of People’s Bank management and all staff members. The ceremony will begin on a religious note at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, and will move on to the auditorium of the Regional Office of the Bank in Anuradhapura.

Similar ceremonies will take place in all the branches of People’s Bank on that day, with a view to encouraging and inculcating the savings habit among Sri Lankans. Officials from the Bank will be out on the streets, moving with the people, advocating the value of savings and the bigger gains of saving with People’s Bank, which will allow all those who save to be eligible to win amazing rewards.

Those who save under the Jaya Sri draw stand to win camera phones, mixer grinders and CDMA phones in the monthly draws, while a luxury house worth Rs.10mn, brand new cars, motorcycles and traveling bags are on offer for the year end grand draw.

Qualification for the monthly draw requires maintaining a minimum balance of Rs.20,000 in any personal savings account or Rs.10,000 in a personal current account from July to September, 2007. Qualification for the year end draw requires maintaining a minimum balance of Rs.20,000 in any personal savings account or Rs.10,000 in a personal current account from October to December, 2007. Qualify for all the monthly draws and the year end draw by maintaining the required balance in any People’s Bank account from July 1 to December 31, 2007. Maximize the chances of winning by up to five times by saving multiples of the minimum required in a savings or current account.

This drive, launched to coincide with the Bank’s 46th anniversary, will be held with the full participation of the nearly 10,000 People’s Bank staff. The People’s Bank branch of the Ceylon Bank Employees’ Union (CBEU) and the People’s Bank Officers’ Association (PBOA) have pledged their fullest support towards the success of this drive.
