1. How can I open an account?

In opening savings account, should obtain the duly completed account opening application/mandate with signature.
Should have the identity of the applicant established by means any of the following documents in opening savings accounts.

National Identity Card.
valid passport
valid Driver’s license
Senior Citizen’s Identity card with an identification number

If the address stated by the customer in the account opening form differs from the address stated in the Identity card following documents should provide to verify the given address.

Utility Bill (not ecxceeding 3 months)
Tax Assesment Reports
Bank Statements.
Grama Niladari Certificates

2. What should i do when passbook is lost?

Customer should be apprised that the bank should be informed immediately in the event the passbook gets lost and that the passbook should not be alienated.
Affidavit should provide which attested by a Justice of peace/ Commissioner for oath/ attorney at law should be independently verified.

3. How can I apply a personal loan and what are the documents need to submit?

Visit nearest People’s Bank Brach to your permanent residence or works station with following documents.

Customer should be apprised that the bank should be informed immediately in the event the passbook gets lost and that the passbook should not be alienated.
Affidavit should provide which attested by a Justice of peace/ Commissioner for oath/ attorney at law should be independently verified.

4. What is the minimum balance that I need to maintain in the Savings Account? title

5. How to open a Minor(Children) account ?

The parents or the Gordian of the Minor should complete the relevant forms on his/her behalf. However, the account should be maintained in the name of the Minor.
Birth certificate is mandatory .

6. How can I activate a Dormant Account?

Visit your account holding branch with your passbook and make withdrawal to activate your dormant account.

7. Are there any minimum and maximum cash withdrawal limits per day?

Online Banking FAQ's

1. Accessing for services

Access to the Internet Banking Facility (People’s Web)

This can access via the People’s Bank Website (www.peoplesbank.lk) and thereafter clicking the “Internet Banking” icon after clicking on the “On line Banking Icon”

Access to the Mobile Banking Facility (People’s Wave)

“People’s Wave” app can be downloaded and installed in the mobile phone from Play Store(Applicable only over ANDROID Version 4.4 , APPLE (IOS) Version 8.0.) and App Galary (Huawei)

2. What is OTP?

OTP stands for One Time Password generated by the system. You will receive OTP to your Mobile phone number or email which is registered with the bank.

3. What is Phishing Image?

Phishing images are used to avoid the unauthorized access to your online banking facility. Select image from the list of images as you prefer at the registration and you have to use it once you forget your password.

4. What is the Phishing phase?

Phishing phase should enter at the registration which contains not less than 08 and not more than 40 digits at the discretion of the customer.

5. How to enter the password ?

Password should consist 08 – 12 characters. A minimum of an English Capital letter, a simple letter, a special symbol and a digit should be included therein.

6. How to enter the User Name ?

The User Name should consist between 3 -12 English letters and numbers/English letters or numbers. Please do not enter any common user name eg: SHEHAN

7. Registration Process

Select the type of the account and enter the account number.
Select the type of the Identity Card and enter the Identity Card number.
Agreement or non-agreement with the terms and conditions that appear on screen.
Select one of the phishing images that appear on screen. Thereafter enter a “Personal Phrase”
Enter password and Re-enter the same password
Select Access level – Should select Inquiry/Full.
Should select either SMS or Email as the medium through which the one time password (OTP) will be obtained.
Click – Request OTP
Insert the OTP received via SMS or Email in the place appearing as OTP in the system and click “Continue”
You shall receive a notification informing whether registration has been successful or has failed.

8. Is there a fee for this service?

Six months grace period will be offered for the first six months. Thereafter the levying fee for this service is Rs 40/- per month.

9.How do I change my Password?

Go to “Settings” of the Mobile Banking or the Internet banking to change your password

10. I can’t remember the username .What should I do?

Please contact 1961 or +94112031001 (For overseas customers) Or Visit your nearest branch

11. I can’t remember the password .What should I do?

Use the “Forgot password” option in the login screen of the Mobile Banking or the Internet banking

12. What should I do if I lose my Password?

Immediately reset your password Using the option in the “Settings” of the Mobile Banking or the Internet banking to change your password OR
Use the option “Forgot password” in the login screen of the Mobile Banking or the Internet banking to reset your password. OR

13. How can I view my account e-statements?

You can download your own statement through our Internet banking system by following blow the steps HOME > ACCOUNT SERVICES >ACCOUNT SUMMARY > ACCOUNT DETAILS> TRANSACTION PERIOD AND DOWNLOAD> FIND THE STATEMENT IN THE MY FOLDER

14. Are there any limits to money transfers?

No limit to transfer money to own accounts in People’s Bank
If you registered at the facility after December 2020, LKR 1 00,000 is the maximum limit to do fund transfer to third party accounts , other banks and bill payment. Limits Per day limit is LKR 100,000 Per transaction LKR 100,000

People's Pay FAQ's

1. What is Peoples Pay?

People's Pay is a Lifestyle app. It manages your financial convenience at your fingertips.

2. What is the card displayed in the home screen?

This is your Wallet Card. The People’s Pay Wallet Card is a digital wallet card linked to your People’s Pay account. It is a virtual (online) payment card that exists only within the app, and it is not issued as a physical card. You can credit the wallet card by debiting funds from any of your accounts using the Top-Up option. You can also do fund transfers, or the payments using this wallet amount. Further, you can directly send money to another People’s Pay user (wallet card) easily.

3. Why my wallet says inactive?

To activate the wallet, you must open an account by visiting our People's Bank branch. For further details contact our call center 1961 (Overseas: +941120310010)

4. Why cannot use biometric option?

To activate biometrics on your device, Android users should use the fingerprint option. If the above steps do not work, please uninstall and then reinstall the People’s Pay app.

5. Why cannot I use funds in my Joint Account?

Joint accounts will only allow debiting if you have set the mode of operation to Either of Us (Which means withdrawal instructions to the bank need to allow any of the joint account holders to withdraw money alone)
If you have set the mode of operation to Both of us, you will not be able to debit the account
If you wish to change the mode of operation, please contact your branch

6. What should I do if I need help or have any inquiries regarding my transactions?

7. What should I do if I change my mobile number?

If your mobile number has changed, you need to visit the nearest People’s Bank branch and register new mobile number with the Bank.

8. What is the merchant request option?

You can request to register as a merchant with People’s Bank using this option. After submitting your request, please visit your nearest branch to obtain your LANKA QR.

9. What is the maximum transaction amount?

The Transaction limit depends on your customer segment. If you need to see your current limit, please follow the steps below.

10. How can change my transaction limit?

If you need to increase your transaction limit, you must visit your nearest People’s Bank Branch.

13. On which device can I use this service?

This is a Mobile App, in that case the app supports Apple_ iOS, Google _Android & Huawei _Harmoney OS.

14. I have Peoples Bank accounts. But not all of them are shown

Currently showing only Current & Savings accounts. Not all of your existing accounts are currently displayed.

15. I forgot my Pay ID/ Password or Lock Password. What should I do?

Easily you can reset your password using the “Forgot/ Unlock Password or Pay ID” option on your login screen

16. How long will it take to process transaction?

All transactions are real- time. Even the other banks transfer.

17. How do I register for the service?

You may download the mobile application directly from your respective app store (Android – Google Play Store, iOS – App Store, or Huawei – AppGallery). Alternatively, you can visit www.peoplespay.lk

To download the application,

Once installed, select the “Register” option to proceed with the registration. If you are a People’s Bank customer, you may register using your account number or credit card details. If you are a non-People’s Bank customer, you may register using your mobile number.

18. How do I deactivate Mobile Banking?

Tap the Hamburger menu (three lines) in the top-left corner.
Select “e-Services.”
Tap on the “Terminate” option.
Select a reason & Description for termination.
Agree to the Terms & Conditions.
Enter your login password and tap the “Confirm” button.
Enter the OTP and tap “Confirm” to complete the process.

19. How can I search for a transaction?

Select the “History” icon located in the bottom-left corner and search for your relevant transaction.

20. Can any mobile number be used for this service?

The Mobile number you have registered with the bank must be used for this service.

21. Can I share my receipt?

Once the transaction is finished, you have the share button to share the receipt. If you need to share an old receipt go to History & open the transaction & use the Share option to share the receipt.

22. What is the “MyReport” under CRIB Services?

The MyReport is a detailed summary of an individual's or organization’s credit history, including loans, credit cards, leasing, and repayment behavior.

23. How can get Myreport under CRIB Services?

Login to the People’s Pay App.
Select e-services.
Choose CRIB services.
Register with CRIB by filling in the required information.
CRIB will approve your request, which may take some time.
After approval, download MyReport.

24. What should I do if I cannot download the MyReport or if its status shows as “Pending”?

If you are unable to download the MyReport or if its Request status is “Pending,” you can contact the Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka. You can reach them via their hotline at +94 11 213 1313 during office hours.

25. What is the fee for obtaining a MyReport under CRIB Services?

The current fee for obtaining a MyReport under CRIB Services is LKR 350.00

26. What can the People’s Pay Wallet Card be used for?

It can be used for online shopping on local websites, making in-app payments, and transferring money to other People’s Pay users.

27. Can the People’s Pay Wallet Card be used for physical purchases or ATM withdrawals?

No, since it is not a physical card, it cannot be used for in-store purchases or ATM withdrawals.

28. What is JustPay?

JustPay is a secure payment facility in Sri Lanka that allows customers to link their bank accounts to mobile applications and perform real-time fund transfers and payments directly from their accounts, without the need for cards or separate top-ups, using a simple and convenient authentication process.

29. How to use JustPay through People’s Pay.

Select the “+” icon which is in bottom right corner under the account tab.
Choose your financial institution where your account is held
Enter your account number
An OTP will be sent to the mobile number registered with the respective financial institution that you intend to add for verification purposes
After entering OTP, Your account will be successfully added to People’s Pay.

Please ensure that you are using the data connection linked to the same mobile number registered with that institution during this process.

30. What is the maximum transaction limit for JustPay?

The maximum amount per transaction is LKR 150,000.00

31. What is GovPay?

GovPay is a centralized system that allows you to pay government-related payments online through banking apps and digital channels instead of visiting government offices.

32. What types of payments can be made using GovPay?

GovPay enables digital payments for government-related services, including fees, li-censes, taxes, fines, and other statutory charges.

33. How can payments be made through GovPay?

Go to the Bill Payments.
Select GovPay as the biller.
Fill in the required details.
Confirm the details and make the payment.

34. What is the transaction fee for GovPay?

The transaction fee for GovPay is capped at LKR 15.00 per transaction.

35. What is the transaction fee for Traffic Fine?

The transaction fee for Traffic Fine is capped at LKR 15.00 per transaction.

36. What is the transaction fee for LPOPP?

The maximum fee charged on a transaction effected through LPOPP is LKR 25.00 per transaction

37. How can I pay a Traffic Fine using the People's Pay app?

Go to the “Bill Payment” section.
Select “Add New Payment”
Select “GovPay” from the list of new payment options.
Choose “Sri Lanka Police” under Organization Name and select “Traffic Fine” under Service Type.
Enter the required details and submit.
You will be redirected to the mobile app to complete the payment and generate a digital receipt

38. What does LPOPP stand for in People’s Pay?

LANKAPAY Online Payment Platform (LPOPP) is a secure, real-time payment system in Sri Lanka that allows customers to pay organizations, including government institutions, directly from their bank accounts.

39. Which types of payments can be made via LPOPP?

LPOPP enables payments for online services offered by government institutions and authorized organizations, including fees, licenses, taxes, and other service-related charges.

40. How do you pay LPOPP through People’s Pay?

You can select any biller under the LPOPP category and make a payment.

Go to the “Bill Payment” section.
Select “Add New Payment”
Select any institute under the “LPOPP Payments”.
Fill the required details and submit.
Confirm the details entered before continuing with the payment.

Advance Payment Terms - (Cash-in -Advance)

1. If made out of a Sri Lanka Rupee Account -

Where the amount of the advance payment required to be made on the total value of goods to be imported, does not exceed a sum of USD 50,000/- or its equivalent in any other convertible foreign currency, shall be allowed.

Where the amount of the advance payment required to be made on the total value of the goods so imported, exceeds the sum of USD 50,000/- or its equivalent in any other convertible foreign currency , then the advance payment shall be effected only on

the submission of a bank guarantee or a standby Letter of Credit for the value of the amount of the Advance Payment, acceptable to the Bank effecting such Advance Payment ; or
The submission of the Value Added tax (VAT) Registration Number , the Tax Identification Number (TIN) and any other documents which Controller of Imports may required having regard to the particular transaction to the Controller of Imports and Exports for his approval given after considering the merits of the respective transaction; or

2. If made out of a Foreign Currency Account, then the limits specified in paragraph (1) (a) and (b) above shall not be applicable there to.

Important

Proforma invoice must be in the name of the Enterprise.

Important

Sender must be an account holder of People’s Bank.
A “Student File” will be opened and a "File Number" will be allocated to each student after submitting all the required documents and funds will be transferred easily throughout his/her course duration.
Transferable funds will be limited to the expenses mentioned in the Offer Letter.
A copy of the letters issued by the Universities consisting the updated expenses must be submitted to the Bank.
All payments relevant to the course and the living expenses of the student should be remitted from the same Bank / Branch in his/her course duration.

(1) A Sri Lanka national who has been a resident of Sri Lanka and has obtained Permanent Residency (PR) or citizenship in another country, including a dual citizen (hereinafter referred to as an emigrant) is eligible for the migration allowance, which includes proceeds realized from the sale of movable and immovable property, tangible and intangible assets owned by the emigrant and gifts received by the emigrant from the spouse and parents. Assets may include the value of precious stones, precious metals, personal jewellery and other assets held in Sri Lanka including estates inherited as beneficiaries.
(2) Following limits shall be applicable for the transactions specified in paragraph (1) of heading B above-

an initial migration allowance of USD 200,000 per individual aged 18 years and above, subject to directions issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
an annual migration allowance of USD 30,000. The first such annual allowance is transferable after lapse of 12 months from the full utilization of the initial allowance of USD 200,000. With the exception of the first allowance, subsequent allowances shall be transferable per calendar year and can be transferred in accumulation, subject to directions issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
an annual allowance of USD 30,000 in respect of foreign nationals as proceeds from sale of inherited property and assets in Sri Lanka subject to the directions issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

(3) The migration allowance should be remitted out through a Capital Transaction Rupee Account (CTRA) opened with a licensed commercial bank as an authorized dealer or a licensed specialized bank as authorized under paragraph (2) of regulation 2.
(4) Eligible migration allowance as approved by the licensed commercial bank as an authorized dealer or a licensed specialized bank as authorized under paragraph (2) of regulation 2 can be transferred from Capital Transaction Rupee Account to applicant’s Personal Foreign Currency Account and/or Inward Investment Account in Sri Lanka or transferred to an account of the emigrant maintained outside Sri Lanka.
(5) Current income (including interest, dividends, pensions, rent, lease rentals and profits) and superannuation benefits (Employees Provident Fund (EPF), Employees Trust Fund (ETF), gratuity and any other approved pension or retirement fund) shall be credited to the Capital Transaction Rupee Account and can be transferred in addition to the migration allowance to Personal Foreign Currency Accounts and/or Inward Investment Account in Sri Lanka or to an account maintained by the emigrant outside Sri Lanka.

Emigrants and/or foreigners of Sri Lankan origin shall obtain prior approval of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to open and maintain foreign exchange accounts in any designated foreign currency for the purpose of crediting proceeds/income of inherited assets derived in foreign currency, if any, for such person.

Step into your Remitting Bank/ Exchange Company (People’s eRemittance Agent)
Instruct the Remitting Bank/Exchange company to send the money to People’s Bank
Fill up the beneficiary details.

Eligibility

An individual including a minor who is a Sri Lankan national.
An individual of Sri Lankan origin including a minor who is a resident outside Sri Lanka.
A non-national resident in Sri Lanka.
A non-national either on temporary visit to Sri Lanka or intending to visit Sri Lanka.
An administrator or executor of the estates of a deceased person, who maintained
A Personal Foreign Currency Account (PFCA) with that authorized dealer or restricted dealer until the completion of the administration of the deceased person's estate.

Accounts may be opened in the form of a Savings Account , Fixed Deposit Account or current Accounts (Without cheque drawing facility) in any following Designated Foreign Currency.

The following information and documents are required to open a PFCA, as applicable;

Permitted Credits

Remittances in foreign exchange received from outside Sri Lanka in favor of the account holder through the banking system.
Unutilized foreign currency obtained by the account holder by debiting the Personal Foreign Currency Account for travel purpose as permitted by directions issued by the Central Bank.
Foreign currency brought into Sri Lanka by the account holder upon declaration [i.e., where such foreign currency notes exceeds or equals to USD 15,000 or its equivalent in other foreign currency on a declaration to Customs Department or where such foreign currency notes are less than USD 15,000 or its equivalent in other foreign currency, on an appropriate declaration to the authorized dealer or restricted dealer].
Transfers from Personal Foreign Currency Accounts (PFCAs), Business Foreign Currency Accounts (BFCAs) or accounts maintained in the Offshore Banking Unit, irrespective of the account holder.
Where the account holder is a resident outside Sri Lanka or a non-national resident in Sri Lanka, transfers from an Inward Investment Account (IIA) of the same account holder.
Transfers from Capital Transactions Rupee Account (CTRA) of the same account holder as permitted by directions issued by the Central Bank.
Transfers from Diplomatic Foreign Currency Accounts (DFAs) of any other person.
Capital, capital gains and other receipts arising from investments made in Sri Lanka in foreign currency, if the original transfer had been made by debiting the Personal Foreign Currency Account (PFCA) [or from the Non-Resident Foreign Currency Account (NRFC), Resident Foreign Currency Account (RFC) or Resident Non-National Foreign Currency Account (RNNFC) of the account holder, prior to this order come into effect].
Capital and capital gains received from foreign investments into an Outward Investment Account (OIA), if the original investment had been made by debiting the Non-Resident Foreign Currency Account (NRFC), Resident Foreign Currency Account (RFC) or Resident Non-National Foreign Currency Account (RNNFC) of the account holder, prior to this order come into effect.
Unutilized balance remaining in the Foreign Travel Card of the same account holder, up to the amount the Foreign Travel Card had been loaded from the Personal Foreign Currency Account (PFCA).
Where the account holder is a non-national employee resident in Sri Lanka, transfers from employers’ Sri Lanka Rupee account as monthly salary, employment benefits and other related benefits.
Where the account holder is a non-national employee resident in Sri Lanka, amounts in Sri Lanka Rupees authorized by the Central Bank for remittance abroad, converted at the rate of exchange obtained on the day of credit.
Transactions or Transfers from any other category of accounts that may be permitted to maintain by the Central Bank from time to time, to the extent such transactions or transfers have been permitted by directions issued by the Central Bank.
Remittances originating outside Sri Lanka from the account holder in terms of section 8(3) of the Act
Interest earned in foreign currency on the funds held in the account.

Permitted Debits

Any outward remittances made outside Sri Lanka.
Disbursements in Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka Rupees.
Transfers to Personal Foreign Currency Accounts or accounts maintained in the Offshore Banking Units, irrespective of the account holder.
Where the account holder is a resident outside Sri Lanka or a non-national resident in Sri Lanka transfers to an Inward Investment Account (IIA) of the same account holder.
Transfer of funds for uploading a Foreign Travel Card.
Transfers in respect of any investment permitted to be made in Sri Lanka in foreign currency utilizing funds in the Personal Foreign Currency Account (PFCA).
Withdrawal in foreign currency notes up to USD 10,000 (or equivalent in any other foreign currency) for travel purpose as permitted by directions issued by the Central Bank.
Where the account holder is a non-national resident outside Sri Lanka who is on temporary visit to Sri Lanka, withdrawals in foreign currency.
Where the account holder is a non-national employee resident in Sri Lanka, transfers to Business Foreign Currency Accounts (BFCAs) of the employer in respect of over payment of salaries and any other payment due to such employer.
Transfers to employers’ Sri Lanka Rupee account in the event of an over payment to a non-national employee resident in Sri Lanka, as per the sub paragraph (k) under the "Permitted Credits".
Payments to residents in foreign exchange in respect of transactions or categories of transactions, to the extent such transactions have been permitted by directions issued by the Central Bank.
Transactions or Transfers to any other category of accounts that may be permitted to maintain by the Central Bank from time to time, to the extent such transactions or transfers have been permitted by directions issued by the Central Bank.
Transfer of funds to a Foreign Currency Loan Account (FCLA) or an LKR Loan Account (LLA) of the account holder.

Foreign exchange can be obtained by Sri Lankans in currency notes and drafts for travelling purposes, educational purposes, and migration….etc. The exchange limits will mainly depend on the purpose of the tour complying with the authorization limits imposed by Central Bank.
